Chaplain Tom Malone’s Testimony

In 1960, I graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. After serving in Nigeria, West Africa for seven years, I became involved in seamen’s work in Port Harcourt. War broke out in 1967, so my family and I were evacuated back to the states.

While in Port Harcourt, the American seamen told me that there was no Christian work being done in Houston, Texas. Since I came from Houston, the Lord opened the door for me to begin ship visitation at the port on July 1, 1968. On this day, I began the journey as a missionary to seamen to the present date.

In 1970, I started writing a monthly article for a church paper entitled, Lifeline to Seamen. During 1970-1985, many ships and seafarers were visited. The Lord directed me to proclaim the written, spoken and visual word of God which I’m still doing to this day. Much public relations was accomplished with churches, organizations, companies and individuals.

On March 15, 1985, Lifeline to Seamen became incorporated. Since many Chinese vessels were arriving, more churches became involved. Soon afterwards, the Russians began to invade the port. Fortunately, I had help primarily from the Chinese churches and other missionaries. These countries were very open to the Gospel, and many were saved by the blood of Jesus.

Since I had congestive heart failure in February of 2008, my ship visitation has been limited. God never leaves without a witness. On January 1, 2009, Thomas Tao became a full time chaplain. He is a very dedicated missionary who is passionately winning souls for Christ.

The ministry is in transition with new board members and advisors. Thomas Tao is using coworkers from the various churches to assist him. The Lord has positioned me to pray more. I am involved in phoning, writing, and some speaking. The ministry is moving rapidly in these end times. Jesus is coming very soon, and we must be passionately advancing the Kingdom of God. There is a greater hunger for spiritual truth as never before, and we have the answer!
