Lifeline to Seamen Ministry
Peter denied the Lord three times and afterwards repented. The Lord restored him, and made him a pillar of the church. Judas betrayed Jesus with a kiss and thirty silver coins. He regretted after he saw Jesus was condemned. He returned the money and hung himself. What is the difference between these two man in eternity?
King David sinned against God by committing adultery with Bathsheba and murdered her husband Uriah. And yet Jesus is a descendant from him. King Saul sinned against God by not listening to the prophet Samuel. He ended up killing himself in the battle with the Philistines. What is the difference between the two kings in eternity?
The answer to the question is obvious. Peter and King David have a living faith. They confessed their sins and they still trusted in the Lord. On the contrary, Judas and King Saul have a dead faith. Their trust to Jesus is broken, and the relationship is gone. What is the bottom line of their (Peter’s and King David’s) capability to survive?
They have faith and responsibility remained. Their lives are responsible to God. So is the seafarer’s ministry. Most missionaries are going across the states, oceans, and continents to preach the gospel. Not many people have the desire and a big vision for that. But, seafarers are the people coming from countries all over the world to our port, at our door steps, pleading for peace and common wealth. We are doing the actual missionary work without going abroad. This is the lest and minimum work a missionary can do. Jesus was a missionary sent by His Father from heaven to this planet. What excuse do we Christians have to be a missionary? It is our responsibility and obligation that we should have at least this minimum amount of faith to tell the seafarers the gospel as they are passing through the gates of our city.
One time I was on a Chinese vessel and was about to leave, a seafarer came to me and said “We have not prayed yet.” Immediately I asked all the people in the room (there were ten of them), to stand up to pray the salvation prayer together. They admitted that they were sinners and asked Jesus to come into their hearts. They repeated the prayer after me sentence by sentence so loud and clear. Events happened like this many times with many different people. They wanted us to pray for their safety on the sea and their families at home. Who did it? The Holy Spirit did all of it. We just follow His guidance.
In Adam we all sinned. Therefore our flesh had no relationship with God until the Holy Spirit dwells in us. In Christ we all have the hope to live forever once again. Faith is the bottom line to survive since the time of Adam. Use your faith and come visit the seafarers with us.
God bless you,
